What this session targets
This 90-minute session isolates and rejuvenates the main back muscles and hip flexors that most influence low back pain from muscle tension and strain. Common triggers include repeated lifting while leaning over, carrying heavy items, or running on uneven pavement. Hypertonic (overly tight) lower back muscles often produce sharp, urgent pain when stressed.
Your therapist focuses on the lumbar erectors, gluteal stabilizers and hip flexors, using simultaneous stretching and hands-on work to lengthen and relax tight tissues. The extended 90 MINUTES lets the therapist assess movement patterns, prioritize the most reactive muscles, and apply sustained techniques where they will be most effective.
What happens during treatment
The treatment begins with a brief intake about symptoms and recent activity so the therapist can prioritize muscle groups. Expect a combination of sustained pressure, targeted massage and assisted stretches; therapists check pressure and adjust technique throughout. The work is intentional and localized rather than merely surface-level, aimed at reducing tone in specific overworked muscles.
Many clients report an intense but productive sensation as tight areas release; therapists tailor depth so you feel therapeutic pressure without unnecessary pain. The hands-on sequence may include longer holds on knots and guided stretches for hip flexors that commonly pull on the lower back, helping improve ease of movement after the session.
Aftercare and local logistics
After the session, drink water, move gently, and avoid heavy lifting for the rest of the day to let tissues settle. Gentle home stretching or heat can help integration, but avoid aggressive exercise immediately. If soreness appears, it is often short-lived; contact us if pain is new, severe, or doesn’t improve in a few days.
My Spa Joy is in Montrose near Westheimer Road and the Menil Collection, convenient for clients combining appointments with dining or errands. Houston’s heat, humidity and active outdoor seasons influence demand—our busiest months are Jan, May and Sep when people commonly seek extended relief after seasonal activity.
