How the technique works
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on layers of muscle beneath the surface using slow, directed strokes and firm pressure. Therapists at My Spa Joy use acupressure, trigger-point work to focus on small knots, and deep transverse friction to move across fibers and address scar tissue. These methods aim to reach tissue that lighter styles do not engage.
Pressure and speed are deliberately controlled: slower strokes allow the therapist to sense deeper adhesions and to work them gradually. Because the work targets tight or chronically stressed muscles, therapists check in frequently about comfort, adapting force and approach to each client’s tolerance and response.
During your 120-minute session
A 120 MINUTES deep tissue treatment begins with a focused intake to identify problem areas and past injuries. The session combines broad, firm strokes to warm large muscle groups with targeted trigger-point release and transverse friction on specific knots. Stretching and positional adjustments may be used to access restricted tissue safely.
Clients commonly report sensations that range from intense pressure to a relieving ‘release’ as tight areas loosen. Rooms at My Spa Joy are private and clean, and therapists tailor pressure levels throughout the treatment. Communication is encouraged so the therapist can modulate work and prioritize the areas you and they identify as highest need.
Benefits and recovery tips
Many clients seek deep tissue when they have persistent soreness or recurring tension in large and small muscle groups; the work is aimed at reducing tightness and improving ease of movement rather than offering a quick, superficial relaxation. Expect possible short-term soreness as muscles adapt, followed by increased comfort and reduced tension for days to weeks depending on activity.
Aftercare typically includes drinking water, gentle movement, and avoiding strenuous activity the same day to let tissues settle. Note our busiest months—January, February, and September—reflect post-holiday recovery and New Year fitness returns, so book early if you plan treatment during those seasonal demand peaks.
